The Muppet Movie (1979)
Feb 2, 2001Muppet Movie
The first and best of the Muppet films where Jim Henson spins them off onto the big screen with charm and sly humour
Mel Brooks
Spaceballs (1987)
Mar 10, 2004Star Wars Parody
Mel Brooks parodies the Star Wars films. As with most Brooks films, the humour is broad and scattershot but occasionally amusing
Dracula: Dead and Loving It (1995)
Sep 5, 2002Dracula Parody
Mel Brooks had a huge hit with Young Frankenstein, an affectionate spoof of the Universal Frankenstein films. Two decades on he returns to do the same for the Dracula film but with far more scattershot results.
Robots (2005)
Apr 11, 2005Animation/Cute Robots
Enjoyably likeable animated film from Blue Sky Studios set in a world inhabited by robots. Lots of visual invention and madcap slapstick
Mr. Peabody & Sherman (2014)
Mar 15, 2014Animation/Time-Travelling Dog Genius and His Son
Animated film based on an old Rocky and Bullwinkle segment about a time-travelling genius dog and his adopted human son. This strips history down to a series of 3D slapstick gags
Hotel Transylvania 2 (2015)
Jan 23, 2016Animation/Famous Monsters Comedy
I had little enthusiasm for this, I tend to like my classic monsters serious rather than defanged - these Hotel Transylvania films are so watered down, Dracula doesn't even get to drink blood
Hotel Transylvania 3: Summer Vacation (2018)
Nov 25, 2018Animation/Famous Monsters Comedy
I'm not a fan of the Hotel Transylvania films and their reduction of the Famous Monsters to slapstick yocks. This is exactly the same as the preceding films, no better, no worse and with only minute plotting difference
