Plot
After their seventeen-year-old daughter Taylor is caught stealing from a liquor store, Roy and Elaine Keenan decide it would be best if the whole family got away for a few days. They book into The Pines hotel. Soon after checking in, they and other guests find that the exits to the hotel are locked and they cannot get out. The hotel has been taken over by Lockwood who manages Stream, a darkweb live-streaming service. Lockwood now unleashes four masked killers who pursue the guests through the hotel where each competes to rack up the most creative kills.
Director Michael Leavy started out making short fan films with the likes of Halloween Awakening: The Legacy of Michael Myers (2012), Halloween 60 (2018) and Leprechaun: Revenge (2025), along with the full-length horror Catch of the Day (2013) and the fantasy film Abnormal Attraction (2018). He has been more prolific as a producer through his company Fuzz on the Lens Productions with films like Pennywise: The Story of It (2021), Hollywood Dreams & Nightmares: The Robert Englund Story (2022), Terrifier 2 (2022), Terrifier 3 (2024), The Pitchfork Retreat (2025) and Screamboat (2025), among others. Leavy can also be spotted on screen here in the role of Brad, the camera technician.
Leavy comes to Stream as a longtime horror fan. He has been making fan films and unofficial sequels for several years. The film casts a number of genre veterans in various parts, including Jeffrey Combs, an indispensable genre icon ever since Re-Animator (1985), as the master of the game; Danielle Harris, once a child actor in Halloween IV: The Revenge of Michael Myers (1988) and Halloween 5 (1989) who became a genre regular as an adult, who plays the mother; Tony Todd, best known for Candyman (1992), in an cameo in the epilogue; Dee Wallace, best known as the mom in E.T. – The Extra-Terrestrial (1982) and a regular horror star as a guest; Felissa Rose, known for her classic role in Sleepaway Camp (1983) as a guest; regular genre actor Bill Moseley in a small part in the end credits; and other genre regulars like Daniel Roebuck, Terry Kiser and Mark Holton.
Stream is mostly routine. Michael Leavy’s directorial set-ups are average – there is nothing original or clever that draws anything out for suspense and tension. What we do get are some occasionally quite gory murders. The only one with any imagination gone into it was the pure sadism of a scene where two of the killers pin a victim to the wall and take turns playing a game of noughts and crosses, which they carve into his chest with a knife. However, the story, its complications, the murder set-pieces, even the appearances of the genre veterans, only amounts to something strictly average.
The idea of the livestream horrors has appeared in a number of films including Deadstream (2022), Streamer (2023) and Charles Band’s Death Streamer (2024).
